Although the idea of 60′s radicals on the run seems a bit dated, I loved the movie RUNNING ON EMPTY and I had high hopes for this story. I couldn’t find an audiobook, which was a shame because toward the end I forced myself to keep reading just so I could be finished. That never happens with audiobooks, at worst I just space out until something catches my interest and I reconnect with the story.
There was so little real emotion in the story, so much “broken dreams and shattered illusions” kind of activity, that there was nothing for me to connect to, very little there. Although there was a connection drawn between the activism of the 1960′s and the tech-savvy activism of today, I found even the sympathetic characters cold and distant, ultimately not at all memorable.
